I would have been in Grade 12 when I recorded this tape, seventeen years old.  That fall I was spending a lot of time down at the indoor pools in Hamilton, and I remember playing this tape for a few of the old boys, like James and Chris.  Overall it's a good, maybe even great tape.  It was definately one of my favorites back in the day.  I wrote at the end of Side A 'A SOLiD SeT! as my overall review of the Mystical set on Side A which extended two tracks onto Side B.  It's the Slip and Slide though who just slam it down.  Back in the day I was blown away by the mixing and the track selection.

One other thing that needs to be addressed is the Caddy.  I thought he did a solid job MC'ing this tape.  He's not too overbearing on the mic, announces the details for a couple of cool parties, busts out a few rhymes, asks for the reload a couple of times on the dope tracks like the Human Future track by Andy C of Ram Trilogy, knows his track artists and song titles.  MC stuff.

So the beginning yah, gotta say something about that.  If you want to mark the official beginning of the tape when the Vinyl Syndicate heavyweights take the reigns, it starts at 6:45, which means that DJ Fleetwood was able to patch into the OTA feed for a little bit.  Back then, you could stream off of the 1groove.com website on Thursday nights.  The quality of the audio was so bad though, this was the tail-end of the dial-up era, bit rates were low.  If you wanted a good recording waiting until the OTA broadcast with a quality new tape was the way to go.

On the tape sleeve I have *MASH UP!!* written in red ink, and it is the mash up business for real.  My favourite moment is right at the end of Side B when Slip and Slide mix in Apocalypse with Ghostbusters, like those two track were made for each other.  I remember playing this tape in my mom's GMC Safari when I was driving Chris to visit a chick he was sweet on in Georgetown.  He asked me to leave him there with chickie so I did, and as far as I know they had a good time! lol.  I would have cruised all the way home listening to this tape on the Safari's deck down the QEW highway, just feeling good about driving with a dope tape playing on a deck with Dolby B NR.

This tape does have this funny feel about it though, it's not quite as epic to me now as it was the first few times i heard it.  Curious about what you think about it as a first time listener. Leave a comment below!
